BRUCE KAPHAN: SLIPPING AND SLIDING Bruce Kaphan plays the pedal steel guitar, but you won't hear
him putting licks on Nashville country & western records.
Instead, he's been playing with rock groups like American Music
Club, REM and Sting. On his solo debut, SLIDER (Hearts of Space),
he creates the definitive ambient pedal steel guitar album exploiting
the instruments penchant for singing sustains and mournful bends.
We journey to Bruce Kaphan's studio where he slides us through
his pedal steel odyssey.

HAROLD BUDD-A ROOMFUL OF AMBIENCE Harold Budd is considered one of the pioneers of ambient music
due to a series of albums he released in the 1980s on Brian Eno's
ambient music series including PLATEAUX OF MIRROR and THE PEARL.
After remarrying and bringing a new son into the world, he's put
out another CD of introspective ruminations called THE ROOM (Atlantic).
We talk with Harold Budd about exploring music inside four walls.

SHEILA CHANDRA-OUT OF THE ZONE DRONES Throughout the 1990s, Sheila Chandra has charted a remarkable
vocal trail, exploring cross-cultural references from India to
Ireland. Her trilogy of albums, Weaving My Ancestors Voices, Zen
Kiss and ABoneCroneDrone, are the "Well-Tuned Piano"
of vocal drone music. But Sheila's voice hasn't been heard anew
since 1995. A throat disorder nearly ended her career. But now,
an operation later, Sheila Chandra sings anew. She has a new CD
called THIS SENTENCE IS TRUE (THE PREVIOUS SENTENCE IS FALSE)
(Shakti). Sheila talks about her new experimental vocals and the
drone zone.

A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH RALPH TOWNER Mention the name Ralph Towner to any acoustic guitarist and
jaws drop, eyes pop open and a look of stupefied awe passes over
their eyes. A founding member of Oregon, Ralph Towner's virtuosic
mixture of jazz and classical techniques and a compositional verve
that has yielded classics like "Icarus" have made him
an icon of the acoustic guitar. On the heals of a new album called
ANTHEM (ECM), Ralph Towner comes to the Echoes living room to
play live.
