ECHOES APRIL CD OF THE MONTH
GERRY O'BEIRNE’S BOG BODIES AND OTHER STORIES
Bog Bodies are preserved corpses from thousands of years ago found in bogs in Ireland and northern Europe. That macabre image has little to do with the pastoral beauty that Gerry O'Beirne orchestrates by multi-tracking guitars, dobro and other stringed instruments in a fashion that recalls Mike Oldfield. Gerry O'Beirne's Bog Bodies and Other Stories is our April CD of the Month.

AN INTERVIEW WITH NIK BÄRTSCH'S RONIN
Cerebral jazz in minimalist patterns
There's a unique brand of chamber jazz these days heard from artists like E.S.T. and The Bad Plus. Nik Bärtsch's Ronin brings a Zen balance to elliptical orbits tied to minimalist designs in a heady, but inviting sound that's jazz by reference, but not by definition. We talk to Nik Bärtsch about 36 hour concerts and Zen-funk.

AN INTERVIEW WITH QNTAL: MEDIEVAL ROCK FROM GERMANY
Medieval traditionalists plug into electronic grooves
Old German, hurdy gurdys and a statuesque medieval singer collide in synthesizers, textures and grooves with Qntal. Principles Michael Popp on saz and oud and singer Sigrid Hausen also perform in the more traditional early music group Estampie. As Qntal, Sigrid becomes Syrah and they make a music that storms the gothic heavens. They talk about their medieval and modern worlds. Qntal has just released a new CD, Qntal VI: Translucida.
