ECHOES APRIL CD OF THE MONTH
MARK DWANE: 2012
A synthesizer guitarist creates a space music opus
Mark Dwane has been a fixture on Echoes since his first album, Angels, Aliens and Archetypes came out in 1991. He's a space musician with an epic sense of melody and orchestral designs, almost all of which are rendered on the strings of his guitars and guitar synthesizer. 2012 is a definitive album from this artist and it's our Echoes CD of the Month for April.

JON DURANT: PROGRESSIVE ROCK AMBIENCES
A guitarist loops back to his progressive rock roots
It's hard to describe a guitarist like Jon Durant. He's been creating ambient soundscapes for over a decade, but he's always had an edge to his playing that comes from his love of progressive rock. On his new CD, he's joined by bassist Tony Levin from Peter Gabriel and King Crimson, and he covers a Peter Gabriel classic. In his basement studio south of Boston, Jon Durant talks about his looping odyssey.

CURIUM: E.E. CUMMINGS FRIED IN A HARD DRIVE
A POET GETS DIGITIZED
E.E. Cummings was a poet in word and form, sculpting his verse in graphic designs and synthesist Evan Sornstein has plugged into this. Under his recording guise as Curium he's made a beguiling recording, setting charming readings of Cummings poetry, read by a 3-year-old girl, an 80-something grandmother and everyone in between. Processed, stretched and distorted, he's set their words in a subtle ambient soundscape on the album Nowever. Curium talks about a poetry and music disc that transcends the form.
