CELLO DELIGHTS
Mellow cellos, chilled cellos, global cellos in a Cellorama soundscape
For some reason, among all the classical instrumentalists, cellists are stretching out into new forms more than anyone. Cellists are electrifying and looping their instruments, sending them into world music terrain and more. In this special edition of Echoes, we stretch our bow across Cello Delights, some of the best of the new cello directions including Yo-Yo Ma, Zoe Keating, Hans Christian (Rasa), and Jorane. Put on your tux and tails, gowns and garters and plug in for Cello Delights.View the Playlist

A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH THE CALIFORNIA GUITAR TRIO
Three guitarists play as one super guitar
The California Guitar Trio inaugurates the new Echoes Living Room with a live set of music. The three musicians, none of whom are from or live in California, play acoustic guitars in intricate arrangements that make you think it's just one super guitarist. In a special live performance they play some of their best known pieces and debut a new composition by Yes singer Jon Anderson. View the Playlist

SUMNER MCKANE: NOR' EASTERN AMERICANA
Ambient Americana from the north country of Maine
In his basement in Portland, Maine, Sumner McKane takes us into his ambient Americana. By night, he plays in a country and western band, but during the day, he retires to his basement studio where he orchestrates an atmospheric brand of ambient Americana, over-dubbing and looping multiple guitar lines into tone poems that evoke the great western skies more than the Maine coast or certainly, his basement. His latest album is NORTH (Don't Hit Your Sister Records). Sumner McKane talks about the long, dusty, snow covered trail. View the Playlist

ERIK IAN WALKER & MARIT BROOK-KOTHLOW
Music of orchestral ambience for imaginary plays
In the heart of San Francisco, Erik Ian Walker makes music that mixes chamber music, ambient sounds and visualizations from plays that he often scores. On his latest album, I HAVE NEVER TOLD YOU, he's joined by singer-dancer-actress Marit Brook-Kothlow for a personal set of often quirky ambient instrumentals and art songs. In Walker's garage studio they talk about pre-operative trans-sexual rock bands, Music for Squares and more. View the Playlist
