INTERVIEWS AND CONCERTS FOR THE WEEK

Monday 04/02
GUITARIST NEIL JACOBS IN A LIVING ROOM CONCERT
Balkan inspired music for solo acoustic guitar

Neil Jacobs is a guitarist based in Columbus, Ohio, but his musical interests extend to the Balkan regions and Spain where he's spent extensive time playing and studying the music. It all emerges in a finger-style technique heard on his latest album, Secret Places. Neil Jacobs comes into the Echoes Living Room to play live.

AMIINA PLAYS LIVE IN A LIVING ROOM CONCERT
Songs distilled through Icelandic air

Imagine Arvo Part played on a music box and you get close to the mix of charm and contemplation conjured up by Amiina. They started out as a string quartet, touring with Iceland's Sigur Ros, but on their own, they play musical saws, bells, wine glasses, metalophones, nyckleharpes and yes, a music box. Last year they came into the Echoes living room and entranced us with their music including songs from their new album, Kurr. Currently on a full US tour, we return to this living room concert with Amiina.

ECHOES ROCKS
Songs from The Rolling Stones, Beatles, and Pink Floyd

Echoes looks to music from the psychedelic sixties to the modern rock 80s as we hear the music reborn in the hands of finger-style guitarists and techno-knob twiddlers. Banco de Gaia, George Winston and Alex De Grassi meet Pink Floyd, Frank Zappa and The Rolling Stones, on Echoes.

A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH RENA JONES
Chamber music for strings and electronics

Until recently, Rena Jones was a denizen of San Francisco's electronica scene. She recently moved to Oregon, but she took her laptop, cello and violin with her. On her album, Driftwood, she combines them all into the elegant and textured electronica chamber music where Arvo Pärt-like lines of liquid inevitability flow while rhythms pulse, shudder and ping through the melodies. Rena Jones invites us into her dining room to hear her do it live.
