ECHOES APRIL CD OF THE MONTH
HOLD ME TO THIS: CHRISTOPHER O'RILEY PLAYS RADIOHEAD As host of the public radio show From the Top, pianist Christopher
O'Riley is a competitor. But that's not stopping us from picking
his latest album as our CD of the Month for April. This is O'Riley's
second run at the music of Radiohead, following his critically
acclaimed TRUE LOVE WAITS CD. But HOLD ME TO THIS might be even
better as O'Riley creates knotty, challenging re-inventions full
of overtone clusters and spiraling counterpoints. Yet, the essential
melodicism, incisive drive and quirky structures of Radiohead
still ring out as O'Riley finds the rock and let's the classical
breathe. We'll hear it in this special two hour feature.

JON JENKINS: DREAM ORCHESTRAS Jon Jenkins is an electronic composer who grew up listening
to the progressive rock of Genesis and Pink Floyd. You can still
hear that influence in his latest album, BEYOND CITY LIGHT (Spotted
Peccary Records), but he's gotten more expansive in his approach,
creating elongated melodies and slowly evolving orchestrations.
In the studios of Spotted Peccary Records, Jon Jenkins takes
us inside his dream orchestra.

A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH DOUG WOOD Doug Wood is a journeyman guitarist living in Cleveland who
has been making a pastoral brand of acoustic guitar music that's
edged by a post-Michael Hedges sensibility. Doug Wood comes into
the Echoes Living Room to play music live from his CDs, I AM KIROC
and SOLACE.
Friday 04/08/05
DARIN SCHAFFER: EASTERN BASS GUITAR A lot of solo musicians try to sound larger than they are,
but most of them do it with a lot of over-dubbing. Bay Area artist
Darin Schaffer plays an acoustic bass guitar but with looping,
and electronic processing he creates a broad tapestry that sometimes
sounds eastern, sometimes country and often ambient. Darin Schaffer
talks about his approach and his latest album.
