A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH GRETCHEN YANOVER
Electric cellist orchestrates classical loops in her Seattle home
Gretchen Yanover is from a new generation of classical musicians. By day, she's a member of the Northwest Sinfonietta, a chamber orchestra in Seattle. By night, she plays with alterna-rockers Trwst, and in her quieter moments she sits with a looping device creating her own minimalist cello adagios. She recently released her debut CD, BOW AND CELLO. In her Seattle home, Gretchen Yanover plugs in her cello and plays live in an Echoes Living Room Concert.
Thursday 03/16
PETER KATER: TONE POEMS FOR THE ELEMENTS
Pianist channels the elements in ambient chamber works
Pianist Peter Kater released a 4 CD set last year called THE ELEMENTS SERIES: EARTH, WATER, FIRE, AND AIR. It's a gentle, introspective series of ambient chamber works that stay just to the right side of sentimentality and at times, reach the sublime. In his home in southern California, Kater and wind player Richard Hardy talk about a music that hovers at the border between improvisation and composition.
Friday 03/17
A CELTIC ECHOES SOUNDSCAPE FOR ST. PATRICK’S DAY
Echoes goes green with music ancient and modern from the Emerald Island
Echoes goes to an Ireland of the imagination with a soundscape inspired by the Celtic Isles. Harpist Aine Minogue, contemporary moods from Solas, voices of Ireland from Iarla O’Lionaird to Clannad, and more create a Celtic soundscape for St. Patrick's Day on Echoes.
