FEATURED THIS WEEK:

SLOW SIX: ELECTRIC STRINGS & AMBIENT ZING
Electric ambient chamber music for the 21st Century

The lessons of the 60s avant-garde and 70s minimalism converge in this New York City band that is creating an electric ambient chamber music. The debut album by Slow Six, PRIVATE TIMES IN PUBLIC PLACES was called the Classical CD of the Year by Time Out Magazine. Only this classical group plays electric guitars, electric keyboards and electric strings. They create a slow dreamy sound that harkens to a melodic brand of ethereal minimalism, but with an edge of the 60s avant-garde. In a chilly Brooklyn loft, Slow Six talks about a chilled classical sound. View the playlist>>

BLISS: FOLLOW YOUR BLISS
Ambient dream-pop band talks in classical elegance

Bliss is an entrancing group from Denmark that merges electronica ambience, classical melodies and African grooves in sophisticated, often ethereal tone poems. Musicians from classical, pop, electronic and African music worlds comprise this band that includes a guest appearance from Zero 7 singer Sophie Barker. Their evocative music has appeared on several soundtracks, including TV's CSI: Miami. We talk to the classical side of Bliss, with Marc-George Andersen. View the playlist>>

ECHOES AT THE OSCARS: AN ALTERNATIVE SOUNDTRACK
Soundtracks the Academy missed

And the nominees for this years Best Soundtrack Academy Award are ..... not the artists you'll hear on Echoes at the Oscars. Instead, we'll hear music from films that didn't seem to pass Academy muster, but are welcome on the red carpet of Echoes. It's an all-soundtrack show from Oscar outcasts, though don't be surprised if a couple of Academy Award nominees crash the party. View the playlist>>

Very old playlists are archived on a gopher server at The Well:

We no longer administer this gopher site, but we're thrilled to see that it's still up and running. Thanks to the kind folks at The Well for maintaining it.
