INTERVIEWS AND CONCERTS FOR THE WEEK

AN INTERVIEW WITH JON HASSELL
Fourth world pioneer still exploring
Jon Hassell’s latest album is called Last Night the Moon Came Dropping Its Clothes in the Street, a title taken from a 13th century poem by Rumi. Mixing laptops, layered compositions, and live sound processing, it often sounds like Miles Davis meeting Arvo Pärt, tuning in signals from space. We talk with Jon Hassell about Fourth World music in the 21st Century.

His album is called Other Planets. We take a trip to Erik Scott's.

A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH THE MARCIN WASILEWSKI TRIO
Hypnotic journeys from a Polish jazz trio
The Marcin Wasilewski Trio are musical descendants of Keith Jarrett and Paul Bley and they play an intuitive brand of chamber jazz improvisation that travels melodic pathways into improvisational journeys. They play a music of colors and textures on January, their latest of two albums out on ECM records. The Marcin Wasilewski Trio unfolds their gentle, but probing music live on Echoes.
