A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH SAMITE Samite is a Ugandan refugee who's been living in the U.S.
for over a decade. But his music has always been born of Uganda,
with a serene voice, haunting melodies and instruments like the
kalimba. The past two years have been tragic for the musician
who watched his wife, Joan, die from a brain tumor. He wrote much
of the music on his new CD, TUNULA ENO (Triloka) while nursing
her. Samite comes into the Echoes living room with guitarist David
Cullen to sing some of his new songs.

DAVID WRIGHT: GHOSTS IN THE MACHINE David Wright is a longtime English synthesist who released
his first album back in 1991. Since then, he's had several solo
releases and is a co-founder of Code Indigo, a synthesizer ensemble
essaying a quantum sci-fi approach to space music. On his own,
Wright initially drew on sources that include Klaus Schulze and
Vangelis for his orchestral space music, but recent albums like
WALKING WITH GHOSTS, show a more electronica side to this artist.
In addition to his own music, Wright also runs the A.D. Music
label whose artists include Witchcraft, Robert Fox and Code Indigo.
In his Bungay, England studio, David Wright plugs us in.
Thursday 02/26/04
A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH ADRIAN LEGG Veteran English guitar eccentric, Adrian Legg plugs into the
Echoes Living Room for an extraordinary concert of guitar music
that defies categorization. Based in folk traditions from England
to Appalachia, Adrian Legg is nevertheless a thoroughly modern
musician, using a custom electric guitar with special banjo pitch-bending
pegs and an array of electronic processing effects. Although his
latest album, GUITAR BONES (Favored Nations Acoustic Records)
is all acoustic, Legg is decidedly electric when he plays some
of this music live on Echoes.
Friday 02/27/04
ECHOES AT THE OSCARS Put on your tux and tails and walk the red carpet of Echoes
at the Oscars. We'll hear music from nominated films like Lost
in Translation, The Cooler, 21 Grams, Whale Rider and The Fog
of War
as well as soundtracks that seemed to escape the Academy's notice.
It's all on the wide screen of Echoes.
