WILL ACKERMAN: GHOSTS RETURNING
Will Ackerman is nominated for a Grammy Award this year. He's best known as a guitarist and founder of Windham Hill Records. He's released many albums and influenced a generation, launching a renaissance of finger-style guitar. On his latest CD, RETURNING (Mary's Tree/Decca), Ackerman returns to favorite songs from across his career, but at the same time he explores his musical past, he uncovers his psychological past as well, including sexual abuse and the suicide of his stepmother. These themes are a subtext of Ackerman's instrumental music from songs like "The Impending Death of the Virgin Spirit" to naming his new label, Mary's Tree, after his mother. We hear ghosts with Will Ackerman.

FEBRUARY CD OF THE MONTH
HAROLD BUDD: AVALON SUTRA
Harold Budd is a pioneer of ambient chamber music. He was already doing it in southern California long before he met Brian Eno, but his albums with the ambient godfather, PLATEAUX OF MIRROR and THE PEARL remain signposts of modern music. Now the 68 year old composer has decided to call it quits and he's released AVALON SUTRA as his swansong. It's an album of deeply melancholy moods and pensive atmospheres that would be the highwater mark of most musicians' careers. It's Echoes February CD of the Month.

COUNTING DOWN TO ZERO ONE
Zero One is the recording persona of Kevin Dooley, a reclusive electronic musician. When we met him in 2001, he was spinning out ambient designs from an anonymous loft above a car stereo and alarm installation company in the San Bruno, California. He's since moved to Arkansas. His latest album, PSY-FI, is another hypnotic and subtly humorous foray into Kevin's mindstate over the last few years. We take a seat in his Zero One Earth Headquarters and lift off.

LOREENA MCKENNITT: A JOURNEY TO SOUND & SOUL
Loreena McKennitt is steeped in the story-telling traditions of folk music, the poetry of Tennyson and W.B. Yeats, and a love of the Celtic harp. She launched her career in 1985 when she released a cassette of her songs called ELEMENTAL. Now nearly two decades along, she's an international artist cited by musicians across the world stage as an influence. It's been 5 years since McKennitt made an album, but her entire catalog has recently been re-issued. We look back with Loreena McKennitt on a music that tracks from Canada to Ireland to Morocco and beyond.

ECHOES AT THE GRAMMIES
The Grammy awards isn't all pop, rock and rap, but you'd never know that from the Grammy telecast. We hear the ambient side of the Grammy awards, with artists from the Echoes soundscape who are nominated in Native American, Soundtrack, Jazz and yes, the New Age category. It's a Grammy soundscape of the imagination, on Echoes.
