A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH PETER KATER
Intimate piano and flute duet in natural hues
Peter Kater has recently released a four CD set called THE ELEMENTS SERIES: WATER, FIRE, EARTH AND AIR (Real Music). He's orchestrated a gentle, introspective collection of ambient chamber works that stay just to the right side of sentimentality and at times, reaches the sublime. In his southern California living room, Kater is joined by wind player Richard Hardy in a session of intimate duets, recorded live, for Echoes.

A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH TRISTEZA
Our 400th Living Room Concert
We didn't realize we were making our 400th Living Room Concert when we recorded the San Diego-based chamber rock group Tristeza on October 18th. Tristeza was a perfect Living Room Concert experience. Five musicians in their late 20's gathered in a living room in Old San Diego, with a panoramic view of a red-hued California sunset over the Pacific. Leaning over twin guitars, drums, bass and keyboards, the band assayed new music from their album A COLORES (Better Looking Records) and revved up a few old tunes marked by their intricate, interlocked guitar lines and insistent rhythms.
Thursday 01/19
RYAN FARISH: PRETTY ELECTRONICA
Electronica composer looks to the divine for inspiration
Ryan Farish is a multi-instrumentalist whose Los Angeles living room is completely taken over by a recording console, computers, keyboards, guitars, and both electronic and acoustic drum kits. He brings them all to bear on his melodically rich, rhythmically sensual albums BEAUTIFUL and FROM THE SKY (Neurodisc). Ryan Farish talks about a life that includes rock and roll, Christ and computers. And we get him to thrash on his drum kit, too.
Friday 01/20
A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH JEFF PEARCE
Ambient guitarist trades 6 strings for 10 in live performance
Jeff Pearce is an avatar of ambient guitar. For the last twelve years he's been releasing dreamscapes awash in reverb, loops and delays, attaining an orchestral expanse from just his guitar. Now Pearce has become enamored with the Chapman Stick, an instrument that's like a double-wide guitar fretboard with ten strings and no body. Tapping the strings with both hands gives a guitarist a pianistic range on the instrument. Pearce's recent CD, LINGERING LIGHT (Jeff Pearce Music) explores this instrument. Pearce comes into the Echoes Living Room where he plays solo Chapman Stick live.
