INTERVIEWS AND CONCERTS FOR THE WEEK

Monday 01/08
CD OF THE MONTH
HAMMOCK: RAISING YOUR VOICE... TRYING TO STOP AN ECHO
Ambient guitars in epic journeys

Out of the country covens of Nashville, Hammock escapes with a brilliant album of ambient guitar and electronics that harkens to groups like Explosions in the Sky and Sigur Ros but with deep echoes of Slowdive. Guitars drone in layered textures as melodies emerge like spectral ghosts, rising to heroic heights. Hammock has been around for a while and they hit their slide into euphoric ambience on Raising Your Voice... Trying to Stop An Echo.

AN INTERVIEW WITH RENA JONES: A WIRED CELLIST
Cellist plugs in and programs

There are a lot of looping electro-cello players out there these days. But Rena Jones is one of the few doing integrated laptop programming at the same time while also playing violin. Until recently, Rena Jones was a denizen of San Francisco's electronica scene. On her album, Driftwood, she combines them all into the elegant and textured electronica chamber music where Arvo Pärt-like lines of liquid inevitability flow while rhythms pulse, shudder and ping through the melodies. We talk with Rena Jones about electric strings.

A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH DOMINIC GAUDIOUS
Solo guitar in looping patterns

Dominic Gaudious is a post-Michael Hedges acoustic player who extends his already extended techniques with electronics and looping. Dominic comes up from the land of Disney fantasy in Florida and with his double necked acoustic guitar and plays music from his album, The Eye of God, live in the Echoes Living Room.

A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH IAN BODDY
English synthesist returns to his melodic roots, live

Ian Boddy makes his third trip to the Echoes living room, where he brings an arsenal of synthesizers to play music from his latest album, Elemental. Many have called this his best CD yet and Ian says it's an album that reveals him emerging from a dark tunnel. We bring it to the light when he plays live.
