RALF ILLENBERGER: GERMAN PRECISION/SEDONA MOODS Ralf Illenberger was at the leading edge of the modern instrumental
movement. Since his first album in 1977, the German born musician
has released several recordings of evocative chamber fusion music,
mixing his intricate finger-picking guitar techniques with synthesizers,
guitarist Martin Kolbe, sax player Budi Siebert and Andreas Vollenweider's
rhythm section. In his closet-sized home studio in Sedona, Arizona,
Ralf Illenberger talks about his journey from Germany to Sedona
and the music that took him there.
Wednesday 01/07/04
A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH AL JEWER & ANDY MITRAN Hailing from Chicago, Al Jewer and Andy Mitran make a music
born of the western plains and transmuted through synthesized
textures and global rhythms. Al Jewer is a specialist in Native
American flute while Andy Mitran handles synthesizers and percussion
in the evocative music of their new CD, TWO TREES (Laughing Cat
Records). These two musicians fill up the Echoes Living room
with more gear than some 8 piece ensembles who've played on the
show. We'll hear the haunting melodies of their music revealed
live.
Thursday 1/08/04
SHAKATURA: SPINNING GLOBAL ECSTACY Shakatura is San Francisco based musician Galen Butler who
emerged out of that cities rave and trance scene to create a music
of compelling electronic designs laced with global music elements
and mystic imagery. We talk to a musician who was born well after
60s psychedelia, but who claims that as his musical roots. He
embodies that spirit in a music for the 21st century heard on
his CD GALACTIVATION (CyberOctave).
Friday 1/09/04
A CELTIC ECHOES The memories of Riverdance have faded, but Celtic music continues
to thrive. We'll hear a Celtic soundscape of new music including
the latest from Solas, Kila, Jeff Johnson and the Celtic Twilight
6 collection.
