AN ANCIENT ECHO FROM PATRICK O'HEARN
Echoes goes in search of Eldorado, the city of gold and the 1990
album by influential synthesis, Patrick O'Hearn. This over-looked
CD proved prophetic with its Persian fusion designs. Now
out of print, we'll unearth Patrick O'Hearn's ELDORADO in an Ancient
Echo.

UTTARA-KURU: BUDDHIST BEATS
Uttara-Kuru is a Japanese project band put together by Kazumasa
Yoshioka and Seiichi Kyoda. On their debut album, PRAYER
(Pacific Moon), they put Buddhist chants to electronica beats.
Their second CD, EAST WIND (Pacific Moon), takes a more pastoral
approach, merging traditional Japanese traditional folk songs
and instruments like the shakuhachi and shamisen with western
instruments. Yoshioka and Kyoda talk about the exploration
of their Asian heritage through a modern music.

A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH HAROLD BUDD
A live performance by Harold Budd is a rare event. This early
architect of ambience has explored a world of unrestrained melancholy
and music he wanted to be "devastatingly beautiful."
His PLATEAUX OF MIRROR album, recorded with Brian Eno, is a landmark
of ambient music. On his latest CD, THE ROOM (Atlantic),
Budd continues his ruminations. A musician usually heard
in electronic settings, we capture him in a purely acoustic performance,
playing with a touch that producer Daniel Lanois said was like
"playing feathers on the piano."
