Echoes Playlist DRALA:
YOGA GROOVES
Record store shelves are lined with CDs designed for yoga, but
few of them are created by actual yoga practitioners and fewer
still by musicians with the credentials of Drala. Drala is David
Nichtern and Steve Gorn. Nichtern is a noted composer and guitarist
best known for writing the Maria Muldaur hit "Midnight at
the Oasis." Steve Gorn has lent his serene bansuri flute
sounds to everyone from Paul Simon to percussionist Glen Velez.
As Drala, they sculpt a modal, meditative sound. In David Nichtern's
Manhattan studio, Drala unfolds the methods of their music designed
for movement on their self-titled debut and a new collection called
Om Yoga-Mix (Dharma Moon).
