Monday, Mar 9, 2026 – Echoes Program 2610A

International Women’s Day was this past Sunday and March is International Women’s Month. To commemorate, we’ll be trekking through women who have plugged in, taking command of their sound and going places beyond music convention, with Women in Wires: celebrating Women in Electronic Music. This was a pretty hard show to do 30 or so years ago. Pickings were slim. But now music is full of creative female electronic artists. The documentary, Sisters with Transistors featured many of them in 2021. We’ll hear music from pioneers Wendy Carlos, Suzanne Ciani, and Delia Derbyshire and contemporary artists including Rena Jones, Azam Ali, Lisa Bella Donna, Sharon Van Etten and more,  Plug in to Women in Wires on Echoes from PRX.

Country Joe McDonald

We remember Country Joe McDonald, of the psychedelic group Country Joe and the Fish.  He passed away at age 84.

SUSSWe’ll also hear from Ambient Americana band SUSS. They return with a haunting album of deep country flanged moods on the album Counting Sunsets. Swaying pedal steel, back porch folk strumming, and desert washed electric sustains fuel this new release. John Diliberto brings us a couple of tracks on Echoes.
