Al Di Meola Covers The Beatles on Strawberry Fields

Fusion Guitar Icon Al Di Meola Trips Out on The Beatles with Cover of "Strawberry Fields Forever."

Al Di Meola takes a romp through the music of The Beatles for the second time, following up his 2013 album, All Your Life: A Tribute to the Beatles with Across the Universe out on March 13.  Ahead of that, he’s put out his cover of “Strawberry Fields Forever”. He uses a lot of motifs from the original, including the Mellotron flutes, backwards tracks and some of the horn and string parts.  But this is less a psychedelic journey and more a Latin-filled fusion.  In the video, Di Meola plays to backing tracks with a band that sounds a bit intentionally mechanistic.  His acoustic guitar seems to trigger midi-parallels of glistening synth timbres and by the end he switches to electric for some of that vintage Al
Di Meola burn.
