Grammy Winner Peter Kater Plays Live on Echoes
Peter Kater has released some 60 albums since 1983, from solo piano to all kinds of multi-instrumental and even vocal collaborations. Among them are his noted association with native flute player R. Carlos Nakai. He is also a newly minted Grammy Award winner taking the New Age category this year for his album of solo piano, Dancing On Water. It only took him 13 tries to get it. We’ve been in many of Peter’s homes over the years for Echoes but this is the first time he’s been in our studio. He plays free improvisations inspired by Dancing On Water.
Weekend listeners may also hear composer Jeff Greinke who has moved from deep ambient expanses to deep ambient chamber music. He’s been recording since the mid-1980s and has released over 20 solo albums plus collaborations. His latest is an ambient chamber music work called Before Sunrise. Apparently, it all began when he was listening to Echoes’ John Diliberto on the radio in the 1970s. He sat in on John’s radio show 40 years ago. He talks about his evolution from those early days.
