Danish electronic producer Trentemøller is gearing up to drop his forthcoming record, Fixion, on September 16. In anticipation of the record’s release he’s unveiled the disturbing music video for the single “River In Me“. Everything about this track is cold. The icy bass line with electronic drums sounds like eighties new wave, driven home when the catchy synth hook kicks in. However, it’s the dark and raw crooning from Jehnny Beth of the UK based post-punk band Savages that propel this song into the unapologetic excursion. Jehnny’s voice would be expected to contrast with Trentemøller’s instrumentation and production, yet the two sounds compliment each other extraordinarily well.

The song’s cold, emotionless tone is complimented by the visuals, directed by Åsa Riton & Andreas Emenius. A series of intense, and at times provocative, moments are all tied together in a video set in Northern Sweden. We witness a lone hockey player in the middle of the night, a mysterious woman in a red cloak, and two girls in one pieces standing in the middle of a frozen lake, bloodied. The video follows an uncanny love story between two girls in a bleak, snowy landscape. A blonde girl in a hockey jersey drives hard and reckless in an old Dodge, closing her eyes and letting go of the wheel. These are only some of the images seen in the fast paced video. The song itself could be the soundtrack to a midnight, metropolitan car chase in the style of Blade Runner. This latest music video from Trentemøller is able to convey a deep sense of action and suspense within minutes, while also taking viewers on an emotional roller coaster ride. River In Me” is a track that truly commands the listeners attention.

Trentemøller will also be playing shows in the US this Fall in support of Fixion. He plays NYC’s Le Poisson Rouge on September 26th and LA’s Hollywood Forever Cemetery on September 28th (SOLD OUT) and September 29th.
