Composed of Maps synth-mastermind James Chapman and eighties-inspired ethereal pop artist Polly Scattergood, OnDeadWaves calls upon nuanced dream-pop psychedelia for their fresh tripped out sound. Their self-titled debut album released in late May 2016, is a collection is fuzzy guitars, dusky atmospheres, and transportive pastoral melodies – establishing the backwaters tone for the albums tracks. The video for single “Blackbird,” directed by award winning Polish filmmaker Lukasz Pytlik, explores the brooding and melancholic feelings present throughout the duos debut work, featuring a contemplative woman walking through the deep orange foliage of late Autumn. The reverb-drenched spell might make you think of Lanterna and Hope Sandoval driving down the lost highway. Contemplative and evocative, the rustic charm of On Dead Waves is unmistakable.
