Philadelphia Echoes Concerts

Three Great Echoes Concerts in Philadelphia: Ozric Tentacles, Low Roar & Lanterna

There are three nights of great Echoes music this week in Philadelphia, Lanterna, Low Roar and Ozric Tentacles.

LanternaOn Thursday, June 11, Lanterna makes a rare Philadelphia appearance.  With Blue Man Group drummer Eric Gebow, Lanterna’s Henry Frayne will be deploying his Americana tinged ambient guitar designs on Johnny Brenda‘s stage, opening for Zach Danziger & Owen Biddle, and I Think Like Midnight.  Lanterna’s Backyards was the Echoes CD of the Month in March. Looks like a night of ambient-Post-Rock bliss. You can hear Lanterna talk about his music in the Echoes Podcast here  and here.

Low RoarThe next night, Friday June 12, Low Roar comes into World Cafe Live opening for Active Child.  Low Roar is making some of the most beautiful, ambient dream pop this side of Iceland, which is where this former San Francisco inhabitant currently resides.  He’s released two beautiful albums of his introspective songs bathed in ambient expanses, his self-titled debut and last years 0. Low Roar played a wonderful set live on the show last year and talked about his latest album. You can hear it in the Echoes Podcast.

Ozric Tentacles Finally, on Saturday, June 13 Ozric Tentacles comes into the Ardmore Music Hall to blow your mind behind their latest album of psychedelic electronic excursions, Technicians of the Sacred.  Ozric live is a transcendent experience as they crank up their driving fusion-meets- dub-meets-sequencer based grooves, electronic moods and the blistering guitar of Ed Wynne.  With the departure from the planet of Gong’s Daevid Allen earlier this year, these  sound explorers are more important than ever. And live, they will take you higher.
Here an interview with them in the Echoes Podcast.
