ECHOES DECEMBER CD OF THE MONTH
SCOTT AUGUST: LOST CANYONS
A Native Flute virtuoso heads for canyon echoes

We've been playing Scott August's music for years on Echoes. He's become an expert on the Native American flute and combines it with sensitive electronic arrangements and environmental sound. Lost Canyons is his latest, and finest album to date. Inspired by the desert southwest, August creates epic journeys and quiet meditations on this meticulously crafted CD. It's our Echoes CD of the Month for December.

AN INTERVIEW ABOUT HORIZONS TOUCHED: THE MUSIC OF ECM
We slip behind the veil of ECM Records

ECM Records defined a style of music that has no definition, but seems to evoke a sense of space, contemplation and nuance to anyone who listens. A new book called Horizons Touched: The Music of ECM, goes behind the scenes with interviews from over 100 ECM artists and founder Manfred Eicher. We hear from editor and ECM producer Steve Lake and some of those artists.

A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH DEVA PREMAL AND MITEN

Deva Premal is one of the original modern chant Divas. She intones Hindu chants in her silken, air brushed voice over the trans-Indian arrangements of her longtime partner, Miten. These European musicians come into the Echoes Living Room with Nepalese bansuri flute player Manose to transfigure the air with chants that sound more like songs than rituals.
