FEATURES FOR THE WEEK

Monday 11/11/02
A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH RICHARD SEARLES
In his living room north of Los Angeles, guitarist Richard Searles plays live. Richard Searles has been mixing his classical guitar technique with Renaissance themes and fantasy images since the mid-1980s. His latest album, THE GREEN MAN (Earthquest) is a lush, chamber music work of original compositions and classical and Celtic themes. Playing with Richard Wagner on tabla and Patricia Mabee on harpsichord, Richard Searles weaves the fanciful melodies of his music live on Echoes. A track from this performance appears on the new Echoes Living Room Concerts Volume 8 CD.

Tuesday 11/12/02
MEDWYN GOODALL: ANCIENT ARTHURIAN AMBIENCES
Medwyn Goodall has never met a New Age concept he didn't like. Over the last quarter century, he's released over 80 CDs, each bathed in a New Age concept from Fairies to Angels, with stops at meditation, Celtic anthems and more. In his rustic home in Southern England, Goodall talks about his prolific proclivities, his early days as a rocker and his links to the pastoral and ancient spirits of England.

Thursday 11/14/02
JEFF PEARCE BLEEDS
Ambient guitarist Jeff Pearce emerges from the drone zone of his last few recordings with his most melodic and melancholic album in years. It's called BLEED (Hypnos) and it's inspired by the emotional trauma he relived while reading through some journals he wrote when he was a teenager. He also talks about "Through Tears" a piece he recorded while watching the events of 9-11 unfold which debuted on an Echoes Requiem in October, 2001.

Friday 11/15/02
FUTURE SOUND OF LONDON'S TECHNICOLOR DREAMS
In their London studio, Gary Cobain of the Future Sound of London takes us inside the psychedelic landscape of their latest album, THE ISNESS (Hypnotic Records). The spirits of Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd, Revolver era Beatles and the pastoral sounds of Donovan inhabit THE ISNESS like mischievous ghosts. Beatlesque harmonies, sitars, Mellotron flutes and phase-shifted vocals permeate the album in a flow from surreal sound collages. Formerly one of the more cynical among London's ambient house music scene, FSOL member Gary Cobain has found the light of spirituality and hears it reflected in 60s psychedelia. He rummages through his record collection and unlocks the grooves of THE ISNESS.
