Monday 10/22
MICHAEL BROOK’S SECRET SOURCES
We discover the influences in the music of Michael Brook

Michael Brook has been at the bleeding edges of new music, working with Jon Hassell and Brian Eno, collaborating with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Djivan Gasparyan, scoring films like An Inconvenient Truth and recording his own albums like last year’s RockPaperScissors. In his Los Angeles studio, we play and Michael comments on music that influenced his career and music he has influenced.

AN INTERVIEW WITH JEFF OSTER: BUILT TO LOOP
Trumpet player blows his way into digital loops

Jeff Oster grew up as a traditional trumpet player, blowing Tower of Power horn lines. Now, he's been reinventing himself, transforming into a digital designer. Finding collaborators and sounds on-line, he's just crafted his second CD of ambient horn music, True. It was our Echoes CD of the Month in September. We talk with Jeff Oster and Will Ackerman about the looping logic of True.

A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH MELANIE HUTTON & MARSHALL LEFFERTS
Other World Music from Santa Barbara

Earlier this year, Melanie Hutton and Marshall Lefferts put out an enchanting world fusion CD called Mystery of Souls. They mix Hutton's ethno-abstract vocals and hammered dulcimer with Lefferts guitars and a host of global percussionists, flutists and string players. We gather them together in a Santa Barbara studio where they play their music live on Echoes.

A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH ANDY MCKEE
A YouTube phenom plays live

Andy McKee has been playing finger-style guitar and harp guitar for many years, but his career took off last year when a video of his became all the rage on YouTube. At this writing he's had 4,790,083 views (http://youtube.com/watch?v=Ddn4MGaS3N4). Not bad for a boy from the middle of Kansas. Andy comes to Echoes, with lots of ears but no video cameras present, to play his music live.
