FEATURES FOR THE WEEK

Monday 10/25/04
LORI CARSON: SONGS THAT WHISPER

Lori Carson has released several albums in what might be called the conventional singer-songwriter mode, but on her new CD, THE FINEST THING (Meta Records) she heads into ambient terrain with songs that whisper and instrumentals that recall Brian Eno-style ambiences. Carson travels down from her Long Island home to talk about her introspective music, recorded right in her home.

Tuesday 10/26/04
OTTMAR LIEBERT: A DAY IN THE WEEK

Ottmar Liebert made a career change a few years ago. After more than a decade on major labels, the German-born, Sante Fe-based musician struck out on his own, hoping to capitalize on the internet download phenomenon. It hasn't quite worked out the way he anticipated, but that hasn't stopped him from recording his finest CD in a while, LA SEMANA (SSR). Ottmar strips down his sound to simple percussion and guitar, but then creates amorphous, evocative edges through electronic processing. Ottmar Liebert talks about his new directions.

Wednesday 10/27/04
A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH CLARA & JEAN-LUC PONTY

Jean-Luc Ponty is the legendary French jazz violinist. Pianist Clara Ponty is his daughter. The two recently recorded together for the first time on Clara Ponty's MIRROR OF TRUTH (JLP Productions). We gather them in the Echoes Living Room where they play the delicate, romantic, classic-tinged themes of Clara Ponty's music in a pair of duets and some Clara Ponty piano solos.

Thursday 10/28/04
JAI UTTAL, BEN LEINBACH & MANOSE: YOGA JOYS & OTHER DELIGHTS

Jai Uttal is a pioneer of world fusion whose first album, FOOTPRINTS, set a standard for east-west fusion when it was released in 1991. Since then, the San Francisco based musician has played rave-up jam band east west music with his Pagan Love Orchestra and more meditative sounds based on his Kirtan singing of Hindi mantras. Recently he's been working with multi-instrumentalist Ben Leinbach and Nepalese flute player Manose. They have a CD called MUSIC FOR YOGA AND OTHER JOYS. Jai Uttal, Ben Leinbach and Manose talk about yoga trance and dance.

Friday 10/29/04
AN ECHOES HALLOWEEN

Lock the doors, close the windows, turn off the lights and just leave one candle burning for an Echoes Halloween. We'll dip into the dark side of the Echoes soundscape to bring you atmospheres and chills for Halloween.
