FEATURES FOR THE WEEK

Monday 9/24/01
A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH DON ROSS
Canadian finger-style guitar wizard Don Ross comes to the Echoes living room to play his music live. The only two-time winner of the U.S. Finger-style Guitar Championship, he combines virtuoso technique with inviting, intricately detailed songs. Don Ross plays the music and tells the tales of songs heard on his latest CD, HURON STREET (Narada).

Tuesday 9/25/01
A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH ERIK WOLLO
Erik Wollo is an under-rated musician from Norway who has been orchestrating synthesizer fantasies since the 1980s on albums such as TRACES (Badlands) and SOLSTICE (Eurock). Last year, he released GUITAR NOVA (Spotted Peccary), an impressive album of acoustic guitar orchestrations. On his latest CD, WIND JOURNEY (Spotted Peccary), Wollo combines guitar and synthesizers in lush arrangements and heroic melodies. Erik traveled over from his Fredikstad home and played music live in the Echoes Living Room.

Wednesday 9/26/01
GARY STROUTSOS'S FLUTES OF SERENITY
Gary Stroutsos built his reputation playing Native American flute, but in the last two years, this Seattle based musician has turned to wind instruments from around the world, creating a music that breathes with shadowed ambiences. Last year he released HIDDEN WORLD (Narada) with synthesist Jonn Serrie. The two get together again on Gary's PACIFIC MOON (Paras) album. This time the tone is Asian with the addition of koto player, Elizabeth Falconer. Gary Stroutsos and his Pacific moon gazers talk about a meeting of tradition and ambience.

Thursday 9/27/01
ALIAS ZONE
Alias Zone is as much a location of the imagination as the name of a Southern California band. On their debut album, LUCID DREAMS (CyberMotion), Alias Zone works out a cyber-improvisatory vocabulary, mixing samples in real time loops and digital processing, topped off with flutes, bass and beat poetry. In their San Fernando Valley studio, the three residents of Alias Zone take us into a dream state.
