FEATURES FOR THE WEEK

Monday 08/19/02
TINA MALIA'S SUMMER OF LOVE
Tina Malia is a child of the sixties, even though she's only 24. A gifted guitarist and pianist, she draws her inspiration from a pastoral vision of the world, with influences ranging from Joni Mitchell and Loreena McKennitt. Living in Marin County, she's just released her solo debut SHORES OF AVALON (Omtown), playing music that goes all the way back to when she was sixteen. An unabashed hippie in an age of corporate suits and cause-free punks, Tina Malia paints a picture of a more utopian world.

Tuesday 08/20/02
A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH SHAMAN'S DREAM
Shaman's Dream creates musical incantations in the Echoes Living Room. Shaman's Dream is a Los Angeles group headed up by percussionist Craig Kohland and sitar/guitarist Chuck Jonkey. A global traveler, Jonkey collects sound recordings and instruments from around the world. He and Craig Kohland merge these into global soundscapes that take a meditative hue until you listen deeper to the environmental designs, world percussion and the custom sitar/guitar of Chuck Jonkey. Shaman's Dream gathers some LA music stalwarts, including Kirtan singer, Dave Stringer and percussionists Gilbert Levy and Jim McGrath. Together, they weave a sonic meditation live on Echoes.

Thursday 08/22/02
A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH PATRICK BALL
Celtic harp wizard Patrick Ball plays live in the Echoes Living Room. Long before Riverdance, Patrick Ball was ringing his wire strung Celtic harp strings, revitalizing the music of Celtic bards like Turlough O'Carolan. Born in America and living in Northern California, he's recorded 9 albums in the last 20 years, full of the lilting melodies and haunting atmospheres of the Celtic Isles. His latest is FAIR PLAY (Celestial Harmonies.) Patrick is one of the few masters of the wire strung harp, as opposed to the conventional gut and nylon stringed harps of today. The wire strung harp was played in the 17th and 18th century by Irish harpers. Patrick Ball makes it sing in this live performance on Echoes.

AN ANCIENT ECHO: METAMORA
Metamora was a great band that included hammer dulcimer player Malcolm Dalglish. They only put out one album on Windham Hill and now it's out of print. But we dig it up Metamora's MORNING WALK on an Ancient Echoes.
