INTERVIEWS AND CONCERTS FOR THE WEEK

Monday 06/08 and the weekend of June 13th
AN INTERVIEW WITH MONO
Electric guitars and acoustic orchestra converge
Mono
doesn’t take its name from the audio configuration. This band is in full, glorious stereo, but they have a singular focus on making an orchestral rock guitar music that owes as much to Explosions in the Sky as Arvo Pärt. We talk with Mono founder, guitarist Takaakira Goto, about his dynamic music heard on the CD, Hymn to the Immortal Wind.

A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH THE MANDRAKE PROJECT
Chamber rock live

The Mandrake Project is a collective of musicians from Pittsburgh that is making progressive rock for the modern world. On their latest album,
A Miraculous Container, they merge world music, electronica, virtuoso playing and compositions that sometimes echo Arvo Pärt meeting Radiohead. They come into the Echoes Living room with violins and guitars blazing, when they play live on Echoes.

AN INTERVIEW WITH THE BEYMAN BROTHERS
Musical parodist plays real music

Christopher Guest is best known for film parodies like A Mighty Wind, Best in Show and most notably, This is Spinal Tap where he plays Nigel Tufnel in the wasted heavy metal band of the title. You might think The Beyman Brothers were a parody as well, but Guest, who is a serious musician, has teamed up with childhood friend David Nichtern of Drala and "Midnight at the Oasis" fame and longtime music collaborator CJ Vanston to create an album of evocative world chamber folk music called Memories of Summer As a Child. The Beyman Brothers give us a real interview.

ECHOES THEN & NOW: GEORGE WINSTON
A piano icon revisited

The piano of George Winston launched a thousand ships, or at least that many solo pianists, but few have attained the depth and breadth of the musician who put Windham Hill Records on the map. As we near our 20th anniversary we look back at George Winston from his Windham Hill debut with Autumn to his latest work.
