INTERVIEWS AND CONCERTS FOR THE WEEK

Monday 04/30
AN INTERVIEW WITH FRITZ HEEDE: TRAVELS DOWN THE RITUAL PATH
Musician and artist create visual music and musical visuals

A couple of years ago we were entranced by the animated DVD, Illuminated Manuscripts by John Banks with music from Fritz Heede. It was a perfect marriage of exotic, kinetic visuals and music. They do it again on a new CD called Ritual Path. We visit Fritz Heede in his Los Angeles studio where he and John Banks take us down the trail.

A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH DINO SALUZZI & ANYA LECHNER
Tango tangents from the reigning master of the bandoneon

Dino Saluzzi is the heir to Argentinian tango master, Astor Piazzolla, and the best-known player of the button accordion called the bandoneon. But Saluzzi goes in more intuitive and cerebral directions than Piazzolla. We capture him in a series of introspective duets with German cellist Anja Lechner from the Rosamunde Quartet. They give a live performance of music from their new CD, Ojos Negros
.

A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH JEFF BALL
Native flute in a world chamber music setting
Jeff Ball is a virtuoso of the Native American flute and a winner of a NAMMY Award (Native American Music Awards). He brings his quartet into the Echoes Living Room, which includes an instrument called the hung drum, a cross between a gamelan orchestra and pan drums. They play the serene music of Ball's latest album, The Shape of Light.

AMBIENT AMERICANA ON ECHOES
The sound of the American west transformed

Ennio Morricone received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Oscars this year, but he should have gotten an award for the creation of Ambient Americana. His spaghetti western scores drew on the sound of the mystic west which is deep in our collective DNA, no matter how much you think you hate country music. Artists from Ry Cooder to BT tap into the landscapes, mysticism and mythology of a true west. In this edition of Echoes, we hear some trailblazers of Ambient Americana.
