FEATURES FOR THE WEEK

DAVID ARKENSTONE-A TRIP TO MIDDLE EARTH
Multi-instrumentalist David Arkenstone talks about his journey to Middle Earth. In a sense, you could say that David Arkenstone was born in Middle Earth. In the early 1970s, he took the name Arkenstone from Tolkien's book, "The Hobbit" and named one of his sons after a place in "The Silmarillion." Arkenstone has always infused his music with fantasy imagery, and now, after two decades of recording, he's created the soundtrack to a book that influenced his life at an opportune time. It's called MUSIC INFLUENCED BY MIDDLE EARTH (Neo Pacifica). In his Southern California home, David and Diane Arkenstone talk about their trip to Middle Earth and their many recording personas including Ah-Nee-Mah and Earthtrybe.

Tuesday 02/26/02
ECHOES AT THE GRAMMIES
On the eve of the Grammy Awards, Echoes takes a listen to musicians from the Echoes soundscape who are nominated this year. Pulling from categories that include New Age, Rock, Jazz, Film Soundtracks and even DVDs, we'll hear from nominees including Afro Celt Sound System, Moby, David Darling and even Jeff Beck.

Wednesday 02/27/02
MICHAEL JON FINK'S ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS
Michael Jon Fink comes from the California school of minimalism which tends to be a bit cerebral and understated. On his album, I HEAR IT IN THE RAIN (Cold Blue), he gathers small chamber ensembles that waxes impressionistic airs, conjuring up Tibetan monks and time slipping away. We talk with Michael as well as his cohorts, guitarist Rick Cox, clarinetist Marty Walker and pianist Bryan Pezzone about the music between the notes.

Friday 03/01/02
PEPPINO D'AGOSTINO & DAVID TANENBAUM: STRING THEORY
David Tanenbaum is a renowned classical guitarist whose repertoire stretches from Baroque pieces to the most modern classical composers. Peppino D'Agostino is a self-taught guitarist from Italy who's part of the Post-windham Hill generation of acoustic steel-strung finger-style guitarists. The two got together last year to record the album, CLASSIC/STEEL. They get together to talk about nylon, steel and string theory.
