INTERVIEWS AND CONCERTS FOR THE WEEK

Monday 02/18
AN INTERVIEW WITH MICO NONET: ORCHESTRAL PLAYERS IN AMBIENT DESIGNS
Arvo Pärt meets Brian Eno in Ambient Chamber Music

Joshua Kramer was a founding member of alt-rock darlings, Matt Pond PA, but he harbored more ambient and electronic aspirations. With his collection of vintage pre-digital synthesizers, he gathered some symphonic musicians, including players from the Philadelphia Orchestra, and created music that whispers at the edges of consciousness, where electronic and acoustic sounds converge as one. We talk with Joshua Kramer, cellist Efe Baltacigil and French horn player Paul Lafollette about their Mico Nonet.

AN INTERVIEW WITH DEMANIA: ACRONYMED VIRTUOSO ECLECTICS
Three virtuosos, one name

DeMania is an acronym for the three musicians in the band, finger style virtuoso Alex De Grassi, electric bass demon Michael Manring and tabla player Chris Garcia. On their own, each musician can create an ensemble of sound. Together, they play a world fusion that harkens back to John McLaughlin's Shakti. We talk to them about their eclectic approach to improvised world fusion.

ECHOES AT THE OSCARS
For Your Consideration....Soundtracks the Academy Missed

The best soundtracks of the year aren't necessarily nominated for Academy Awards. But on this Echoes we'll hear music from films that didn't seem to pass Academy muster, but are welcome on the red carpet of Echoes. It's an all-soundtrack show from Oscar outcasts, though don't be surprised if a couple of Academy Award nominees crash the party
.
