Delia Derbyshire’s 80th Birthday in Echoes Podcast.

Dreams of Delia Derbyshire in Echoes Podcast

Delia Derbyshire is an icon of electronic music for any British musician. She’s not as well known in the US because the body of her work was composed for the BBC while she worked in their Radiophonic Workshop. But her theme for the Doctor Who TV series turned a generation or two onto electronic music. Born on May 5, 1937, Derbyshire died in 2001, but her legacy lives on and in the Echoes Podcast we’ll hear about her influence from John Foxx of Ultravox, Paul Hartnoll of Orbital, Garry Hughes and Harvey Jones from Bombay Dub Orchestra and the Delia Derbyshire Appreciation Society (a band, not a society), Tim Gane of Stereolab and a former collaborator, David Vorhaus of White Noise. If you want to dig a little deeper into Delia Derbyshire, below is a BBC Documentary on her, The Delian Mode and a Spotify playlist with some of her musical descendants and of course Delia herself.
