Weekend, May 2 & 3, 2015-Echoes Program 1517A

Concert: Andy McKee.

There are a couple of guitarists in the third generation of post-Leo Kottke and John Fahey pickers who have risen to the top. Kaki King is one. Andy McKee is the other. McKee came to renown about 10 years ago with a YouTube video of him playing his song “Drifting.” It’s got over 50 million views as of this writing. McKee adopts the techniques of Michael Hedges, using a two-handed tapping approach to the guitar. He also plays harp guitar, an instrument with an additional 6 bass harp strings. He brings it all to play live on Echoes.
